🔵 Why Does My Ducati 350 Leak at High RPM? Head O-Ring Problems Explained : Video & Written response
If you’re experiencing an oil leak on a Ducati engine head to barrel O-ring, whether on a Ducati single cylinder or Ducati V-twin, this is a common issue that often appears even after replacing the O-ring seal multiple times. Many riders find that the engine runs fine under normal conditions, but develops a head O-ring oil leak at high RPM or under load.
This problem is commonly associated with Ducati head gasket / O-ring sealing issues, including dowel alignment, sealing pressure, and incorrect crush on the O-ring between the head and barrel. At higher RPM, increased oil pressure can expose weaknesses in the seal, leading to persistent leaks that seem to return after every repair.
In this video, we break down why your Ducati head O-ring leaks only when riding hard, how oil pressure behaves at high RPM, and what to inspect if you are dealing with a recurring Ducati barrel to head oil leak on both singles and V-twins. We also look at whether the issue could be related to the Ducati dowel design, sealing face compression, or O-ring fitment.

Original Question:
Hi Guys.
I have a 1971 Silver Shotgun 350. My question is the O-ring seal between the head and the barrel leaks. I’ve replaced the seal on a few occasions.
All seems fine with normal riding, but if I’m having some fun and riding it a bit harder with higher RPM, it leaks.
I’d assume the guys that race these old singles have the same problem.
Love to hear your thoughts
